Are you worth your salt?

I am a big user of salts for all kinds of purposes and got to thinking about the history of salt and it is quite something to behold. Whether you use it in the preparation of foods (curing or cooking) or use it in your magickal workings, the energy it offers is quite powerful and a little goes a long way.

Salt & Religion --
Salt = Salvatus =Salvation

Salary comes from the word Salarium, meaning payment. Salary and sale come from words relating to salt and at one time salt was a form of currency.

Biblically speaking, Lot's wife turned to salt for her lack of faith. Jesus in the book of Matthew said "Ye are the salt of the earth" and also in Mathew salt is equated to wisdom. In the courtyard of Solomon's Temple stood wht the old testamend called a "molten sea", said to have held 2,000 baths for salting meat. Ghandi turned a nation around with salt as a symbol of independence.

Throughout history civilizations have risen near salt sources and have overcome numerous hardships to do so.

The Roman Goddess of Salt is Salus which means health. She is represented by the serpent. Salus was later represented by the Greek Goddess Hygieia and her symbol is the circle. The Gnostic symbol of the of the snake biting its tail is the alchemical symbol for salt
